The Tedious Task of Typing

Well, this site is starting to come together. Little by little, I’m figuring out how to make ExpressionEngine do what I want and get it all to fit in with the mildly acceptable site design I came up with so many ages ago. I think, if i can get a barebones template up for the Bio, Equipment, and Links pages, then I’ll be pretty much ready to pitch the site to the rest of the band guys. Jesse has seen it already, and he seemed to like it pretty well, but he’s the only one so far. I also want to try and find a way to get the Avatar function to work in a cool way, because then it would be easy to see at a glance who had posted on this Stories blog. I bet if i fished around on their various blogs and mySpaces (*shudder*) i could find a headshot for everyone that I could make into an Avatar for each of us. That, I think, would be pretty cool.

I finally got the Downloads page to do a couple of things that I wanted it to do - first, have links that actually work (they were all broken previously because of the way ExpressionEngine renders things as opposed to the old, static, boring HTML way it used to do), and second, only display one post at a time to make it feel a little bit more like it used to. I do like ExpressionEngine, I really do, but it’s a little bit hard to get used to. I’m thinking i’ll have to create a Weblog for the Links, Bio, and Equipment pages that are likely to never get updated with any frequency (granted, that may be true of the entire site) or else just make the template into straight HTML and kind of miss the whole point of having EE installed. I don’t suppose it will be a very big deal to create the templates, since EE is a pretty darn smart system for content management, but I guess it’s kind of a philosophical thing of having so many weblogs to manage. I’m probably just complaining about nothing in the end, and probably complaining to no one at the same time. Ah, the joys of Web life…

I’m also going to try and do some more work on the music stuff this weekend (possibly tonight) and see if i can have something to post soon. My plan is to try and get vocals and acoustic recorded for a song I wrote when I was in college called “When All I Have Is You” that stylistically is a heavy tribute to old-school Delirious?, which is a style that I have long admired. If all goes well, I should even be able to get some piano recorded too, and if all goes really well, I’ll see if DrumFlow can give me a little bit of a beat to play with. I might even play with a few of the sampler VSTi’s i’ve got and try and use them for drums.

Anyway, as things progress, I’ll be keeping this site posted. Not that anyone will read it, but it should be there anyway. Peace!
